The process of a cow giving birth to a baby is called calving. Calving rate is defined as the number of calves born per 100 cows mated, serving as a measure of fertility on a herd basis . It is a key measure of livestock reproductive efficiency, showing the percentage of females (cows, sows) that successfully give birth, calculated as (Number of Calves Born / Number of Females Exposed) x 100.
Data in this file was derived from section 11 of the questionnaire - Change in Livestock. This section captured detailed data on the change in number of animals in the past 12 months prior to the survey, recording all entries (births, purchases, gifts received etc.) and exits (sales, deaths, losses, slaughtering, donations etc.). Data was collected at the level of the livestock GROUP.
